What is AODA?

The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) was enacted in 2005 in Ontario, Canada. This Act was created to help increase the accessibility of Ontario's public areas by the year 2025. By creating a target date that was twenty years in the future from its inception, the Act gave plenty of time for planning, revisions, and correction of inaccessible facilities.

The standards of this Act apply to anyone who is an employer of Ontario residents, provides accommodation, owns or occupies a building, provides goods or services, and more.

AODA has adopted the WCAG 2.1 AA as guidelines for ensuring that websites are authored and structured in an accessible and inclusive manner to work as seamlessly as possible with those relying on assistive technologies.
